New Royal Family Portrait Features King Charles, Camilla, Prince William and Princess Kate | Harry, Meghan are Missing

King Charles III, Queen Consort Camilla, and Prince William, Princes of Wales, and Catherine, Princess of Wales, were seen posing for a new photograph released by Buckingham Palace over the weekend. The four senior royals dressed in black for the portrait, which is likely in honor of the official mourning period for the late Queen Elizabeth II. According to TODAY, the UK observed 10 days of national mourning after the monarch’s death on Sept. 8.

After the Queen’s funeral on Sept 19 royal family members observed an additional seven days of mourning. The new portrait did not include the Duke and Duchess of Sussex — Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. It was revealed on the royal family’s social media accounts with the caption: Their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort with Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales. The shot of the new monarch, Charles and his son, and their wives was taken on Sept. 18 on the eve of Her Majesty’s state funeral. It was the same night that world leaders, including President Joe Biden and his wife, First Lady Jill Biden traveled for a pre-funeral reception held at Buckingham Palace. According to Cosmopolitan, they were amongst the hundreds of people in the palace’s main staterooms.

Queen Elizabeth II died of old age on Sept. 8 at the age of 96. Her funeral took place on September 19 after which she was buried at the King George VI Memorial Chapel within Windsor Castle, according to The New York Post. Queen Elizabeth II’s son Charles, 73, ascended the throne after the death of his mother. She broke the record of the longest-reigning monarch in British history after she completed 70 years on the throne.

According to Town & Country Magazine, in his first speech as King, the monarch promised that he will “solemnly pledge myself, throughout the remaining time God grants me, to uphold the Constitutional principles at the heart of our nation.” As for the royal family close members also have changes in their titles including wife Camilla is now be referred to as the Queen Consort. The King continued, “I count on the loving help of my darling wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own loyal public service since our marriage seventeen years ago, she becomes my Queen Consort.

I know she will bring to the demands of her new role the steadfast devotion to duty on which I have come to rely so much.” His son and wife also received new titles as Prince and Princess of Wales. More recently the two paid their first visit to the country after receiving their new titles to take “the time to strengthen their relationship with communities in all parts of Wales,” according to a social media post.
